Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Paul Routier, MBE, will represent Jersey on 10 April 2014 at an evening of ceiliúradh (celebration) for the President of Ireland at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The Irish President, Michael D Higgins, will be the guest of honour at the event, which will include a programme of performances celebrating the cultural links between Britain and Ireland. President Higgins will be attending as part of his historic state visit to the UK this week. This is the first state visit by an Irish Head of State to the UK and follows HM the Queen’s successful visit to the Republic of Ireland in 2011.
Senator Routier said “Jersey hugely values its position as part of the community of the British Isles, as is evident from our enthusiastic participation in key organisations such as the British-Irish Council and the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly.
“I was pleased to be able to accept the invitation of the Irish Government to represent Jersey at this event, which marks yet another historic milestone in the British-Irish relationship.”
