Islanders name worst spots for dog mess

05 June 2015

Eco active asked the public to name the Island’s worst places for dog poo. Hundreds got in touch via social media and email, and by filling in forms at various locations across the Island.

Eco active will now begin working on tackling the problem in the following named areas: Havre des Pas; Jardin d'Olivet; La Pouquelaye; Noirmont Point; Portelet Common; Ouaisne Common; Queen’s Valley Reservoir; Rue des Près footpath; St Ouen’s sand dunes; St Catherine's Woods.

Eco active programme manager, Jane Burns, said “Identifying the worst affected parts of the Island will help us to focus our efforts. Obviously, we want the message to get out across the whole of Jersey but now we understand the areas where some extra targeted work is needed.

“Our resources are now in pet shops, garden centres, the Animal Shelter, parish halls and veterinary surgeries. If any business or community centre would like to act as a distribution point, we’d be very happy to hear from them. The resources include poo bags, badges and stickers. We hope that by drawing attention to this issue, the public will help persuade people to be responsible and help reduce the amount of dog poo across Jersey.”

Anyone wanting to support the campaign can download free posters and a list of places stocking the bin stickers and campaign pin badges, and free emergency biodegradable poo bags online.
