The Liberation 70 Poetry Competition has produced a trio of winners
- Leva Belova and Aliyah Buesnel (7-11 years category) – ‘Occupation’
- Hannah Fennell (12-17 years category) – ‘Contented’
- Jane Wakeham (18+ years category) – ‘The Gift’
The winning entries were read at the Liberation 70 celebrations held in People’s Park on 9 May 2015, in the presence of HRH The Countess of Wessex.
The competition, part of the official celebrations of the 70th Anniversary of Jersey’s Liberation, was run by the Jersey Arts Trust. The shortlisted poems were judged by a panel made up of the Bailiff, William Bailhache, Jurat Jill Clapham and the Connétable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft.
More than 100 people entered the competition. The entries were shortlisted by the Jersey Arts Trust and the editor of Writing magazine, Jonathan Telfer, before the panel selected the winners without knowing the identities of the authors.
The winners and runners-up will receive their prizes at a reception this evening (Tuesday 9 June) at the Old Library, Bailiff’s Chambers, Royal Square. The three prize winners will receive Kindle Readers. The runners-up in each category will receive book tokens. The schools of the winners in the 7-11 category (Grouville School) and 12-17 category (Jersey College for Girls) will also receive book tokens.
