Two New Jersey politicians, Assemblyman Gordon Johnson and Assemblyman Reed Gusciora, will lead a delegation to the Island next week (20 and 21 April 2015). They will be accompanied by senior officials from the New Jersey Legislature.
Assemblyman Johnson is Chair of the New Jersey Commerce and Economic Development Committee; Assemblyman Gusciora chairs the state’s Regulatory Oversight Committee. Their delegation follows last year’s visits to New Jersey by the Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, and the Connétable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft.
The Assemblymen will meet the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and the Lieutenant Governor, General Sir John McColl. They will also meet other States Members, including Senator Ozouf and Connétable Crowcroft, and members of the finance industry, as well as attending a dinner hosted by the Bailiff, William Bailhache.
The visit programme also includes tours of Durrell Wildlife Park, the Jersey Museum, the Maritime Museum, St Ouen’s Manor and the War Tunnels. On 21 April, there will be a presentation of the Société Jersiaise’s ‘Jersey – New Jersey’ photographic project.
Senator Gorst commented “After last year’s 350th anniversary celebrations, the strong historical links between Jersey and New Jersey are fresh in our minds. I am also looking forward to continuing to build on new relationships with our counterparts in the Garden State.”
