Revised bus timetable begins

A revised LibertyBus timetable begins on Monday 30 March, providing additional departures over the Easter period and providing increased capacity until the peak summer season from late May.

A new relief bus service will also be introduced from 30 March to serve 'Inner Road' passengers from Bel Royal into town. As part of an initiative to ensure buses arrive on time, a small layout change to the bus lane at Bel Royal Corner will now enable buses to turn right from Victoria Avenue onto Route de St Aubin. Previously, when relief buses were sent out they had to go out all the way to the Jersey War Tunnels before being able to turn back in the opposite direction. This alteration will allow LibertyBus to operate extra relief services at peak periods, when buses travelling to St Helier from the west often encounter delays due to congestion.

A sign requesting that road users allow buses to change lane is also to be trialled on Route de la Liberation, on the approach to the Tunnel. School buses in particular encounter delays in this area when travelling east during the morning rush hour, and the trial sign is designed to help ensure that children can be dropped off at schools on time, by letting bus drivers approach the tunnel in the lane with the shortest queue.

Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Deputy Eddie Noel, said "The restricted space available on Jersey roads makes it difficult to provide priority measures that assist bus services, so I am pleased that a minor adjustment to the kerb layout at Bel Royal will make it much easier for LibertyBus to run relief buses on the Inner Road and reduce gaps between services in the morning peak period.

"There is a traditional courteousness of road users in Jersey, which is already of great assistance in giving way to buses. I would ask all road users to please be aware that these minor changes mean that buses will in future be able to make unfamiliar manoeuvres at certain times."
