There has been a tremendous response to the Jersey Household Spending and Income Survey so far, with more than 1,000 households taking part since the survey started last April.
With only two months of the survey left to go, the Statistics Unit are encouraging households to participate. Each month, households are chosen at random and asked to take part in the confidential survey.
Measuring the ‘cost of living’ in Jersey
The survey collects information on household spending, which is essential to keep the Retail Prices Index (the ‘cost of living’) and other official statistics accurate and up to date.
It also provides vital information on household incomes, which is used to measure income inequality and relative low income in Jersey.
Duncan Gibaut, Chief Statistician, said “This important survey only takes place once every five years and is vital to help us understand the living costs and incomes of households in Jersey. Every household that takes part represents not only their own household but others in Jersey like it, helping to ensure that official statistics represent everyone in the Island. I would like to thank all of the households who have taken part in the survey so far.”
Prize winner
Households who have been involved have often fed back that they found it a very interesting and useful budgeting exercise, and were very positive about being part of something that is so important to Jersey.
Another reason for taking part is the chance to be entered into a quarterly prize draw. The Statistics Unit have randomly selected the winner of the latest prize draw for the households that took part during the last three months, and would like to offer congratulations to the winning household from St. Saviour.
