With only a week to go until the island’s first ‘Wellfest’ event, islanders are being asked to remember to book their tickets for the free event at Les Ormes, on Saturday 27 October.
Wellfest has been organised by the States of Jersey to promote physical, emotional and mental health and follows World Mental Health Day.
Although the event is free, anyone who wants to go needs to book a ticket for either the morning or afternoon session via EventBrite.
Islanders of all ages will be able to try out new sports and activities, hear talks and browse stalls at Les Ormes on the first Saturday of half-term. Activities include mindfulness, wellbeing walks, yoga, mermaid sessions, a military assault course, inflatable archery, cricket and football, learning listening skills and lots more.
It's being led by the States of Jersey’s Health and Community Services Department and Children, Young People, Education and Skills. It's supported by other wellbeing partners including:
The day before the event is open to the public, year 7 students from secondary schools will enjoy a preview of Wellfest at a dedicated day for them.
Daniela Raffio, who has helped organise the event, said, “There really is something for everyone. We hope that islanders come and see what is on offer and find something for them which they’d like to take up, learn more about, or feel inspired by. We’re very grateful to everyone who has worked with us to make this happen, and in particular, we hope the Year 7 students who experience the event on Friday really enjoy it. We want people of every age to engage and it’s great to start Wellfest by having so many students to experience it.”
Health Minister Deputy Richard Renouf said: “The event has come together after months of careful planning. I am very grateful to the organising team for all they have done to bring it to fruition. Looking after ourselves is important, and this applies equally to our physical, emotional and mental health. There are many ways to improve all those aspects of our health and Wellfest is the opportunity to have things to try, see and do all under one roof. I’d urge people to book and come along to support it, find out more, and try something new.”
