Stamp duty payments go digital

01 October 2018

A new online service means that law firms in Jersey can now pay property stamp duty on behalf of their clients online, replacing the need to use physical stamps.

Businesses can notify the States of Jersey online of their intention to pay property stamp duty for transactions, and then make the payments directly to the Treasury.

More than 350 online forms were completed in August, with stamp duties totalling more than £1.5 million being paid directly to the Treasury.

The launch of this digital service was made possible following changes made to the Stamp Duties Law in July and paves the way for introducing a digital service for small value stamp duty payments for court activities, such as grants of probate, in the future.
