Jersey Library has completed a four-year project to index Evening Post newspapers covering the period of the Great War.
The task to compile the index was launched in 2014 to mark 100 years since the start of World War I, and staff have finished in time for the 2018 centenary celebrations.
The index will allow staff at the library to quickly search results for anyone looking to find out about members of the Armed Forces, lists of Islanders signing up, reports from the front line, information on the wounded and Roll of Honour and domestic news of the time.
Prior to the index, researchers had to work through four years’ worth of newspapers and almanacs in order to retrieve information.
Julie O’Grady, Senior Librarian, said: “We believe this will be an invaluable resource to those researching the period of the Great War and also to those researching family members.”
This index is available at the Reference desk on the first floor at Jersey Library.
