Pupils across Jersey are today receiving their GCSE results for examinations taken this summer. Early results indicate that students across the Island have performed well.
This is the second year that pupils’ results will combine the reformed GCSE qualifications, which are graded 9 – 1, with some remaining legacy A*- G GCSE qualifications and a range of International GCSE qualifications (IGCSEs).
Results for Year 11 pupils
This year, 903 Year 11 pupils were entered for a total of 6,924 GCSE or IGCSE examinations. The pass rate for Year 11 pupils in 2018 was 99.1%.

Provisional results for Year 11 pupils show the number of grades at C/4 and above are significantly higher compared to the previous year at 77.0%.

Commenting on this year’s results, Senator Tracey Vallois, the Education Minister said: "On behalf of the department I would like to congratulate each student for their hard work and commitment. GCSE results are the culmination of 12 years of education and a time to celebrate the positive efforts of the students and the support of their families.
“But we would also not be here without the dedication of our teachers. Teachers (former and current) in all our schools deserve recognition for the significant effort involved in introducing a new system and guiding our young people through these reformed GCSEs, which have more demanding content and greater focus on final exams, whilst also maintaining standards across other qualifications.”

Results for all entries
For the first time this year, provisional results for entries this summer by students of all ages has been collated for Jersey; for instance, this includes those pupils in Years 9 and 10 taking exams early, those in Years 12 and 13 taking resits, as well as external entrants.
A total of 1,617 Jersey pupils of all ages were entered for 7,724 GCSE or IGCSE examinations, with a pass rate of 99.1%.
Results show that 22.8% of entries resulted in grades A/7 and above, and 74.1% at grade C/4 and above.
Although not directly comparable to results for England, due to the inclusion of IGCSE results in Jersey, indications are that 74.1% of entries in Jersey resulted in grade C/4 or above, 7.5% higher than results published for England.

Students taking level 2 vocational qualifications (equivalent to GCSE grades 4-9) have also performed very well. At Highlands College the 176 students taking the Jersey Progression Qualification in one year have achieved a 96.0% pass rate (comparable to 94.9% in 2017) with 61 per cent of students achieving Distinction* (equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade A*) or Distinction (equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade A) for their full Diploma.
Once appeals and re-marks have been completed, more detailed analysis of the results, including results for the vocational and technical qualifications taken by students in Year 11, will be undertaken and published later in the academic year.
