The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) is holding a workshop today to share the knowledge and experience it has in road safety with the twelve other road authorities in Jersey – the Parishes, as well as other interested parties.
Road Safety is a high priority for the Department.
As part of its 2017 /19 action plan, DfI is leading a workshop to explain how it assesses the road safety requests it receives from the Parishes and the public, and how they are then prioritised for action.
DfI will also be explaining the different criteria it reviews when considering what road safety improvement would be most suitable to solve the issues highlighted.
Their qualified engineers will be explaining the benefits and restrictions of various different commonly used measures such as zebra crossings and road humps.
They will also be talking about current UK best practice and legal requirements.
Deputy Eddie Noel, Minister for Infrastructure said “My Department is responsible for the main roads in the Island, but the Parishes have responsibility for all the other roads. We have qualified and experienced engineers and it seems sensible to share their knowledge with the other authorities so they can better understand our approach to road safety.”
