More than 30 members of staff from the newly formed Children, Young People, Education and Skills department have been accredited as Triple P, Positive Parenting Practitioners.
The staff, from schools, parenting and family support teams and the Education Welfare Service, have successfully passed the rigorous skills and knowledge requirements to become ‘Positive Parenting Programme’ or Triple P accredited practitioners.
Since this Positive Parenting programme was launched in April, more than 350 parents in Jersey have already experienced some Triple P parenting support, either in groups or individually.
Triple P parenting programmes include 17 specialist parenting techniques that are proven to help support families and ensure they can:
• raise happy confident children
• manage behaviour that so everyone in the family enjoys life more
• set rules and routines which everyone respects and follows
• encourage behaviour which parents want to see
• take care of themselves
• feel confident they are doing the right thing
Julian Radcliffe, Director of Inclusion and Early Intervention, added: “The intention is to make sure parents in Jersey can have as little or as much support as they need, through an approach that is proven to work and we want to make that intention real for every parent.
“Being a parent can be the most rewarding role in our lives but also the most challenging and we hope that any and all parents will be able to get help when needed or just be reassured they are doing the right thing.
“Feedback from parents so far has been exceptional and we know Triple P Positive Parenting delivery is already making a difference for Jersey families.”
