Still time to have your say on former Haut de la Garenne consultation

29 March 2018

Islanders are being reminded that there is still time to have their say about the future of the former Haut de la Garenne children’s home.

More than 750 people have taken part in the Island-wide consultation, which was launched on 8 February, in response to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry’s recommendation that the site should be demolished.

Jersey’s Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst said: “The consultation about the former Haut de la Garenne site represents an important part of our response to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry. Before a decision is made about the future of the building we are keen to ensure that all voices have been heard. I am very pleased to learn that more than 750 people have already accessed the questionnaire but would encourage all those who are yet to respond to take this opportunity to share their views with us. Wide participation will ensure we can develop a clear understanding of the full range of perspectives on this issue before a decision is made.”

The public’s views about the Inquiry’s recommendation and the future of the site are being gathered through a short questionnaire which can be completed either online or in a printed format. The questionnaire and information booklet, which sets out the history of the site, are available from Parish Halls, Jersey Library, Cyril Le Marquand House and can be accessed online at: www.gov.je/consultations

The consultation about the former Haut de la Garenne site will close on Sunday 22 April and the results of the consultation will be presented to the new Council of Ministers in July.
