New services open at La Motte Street

​The States of Jersey opens the newly formed Customer and Local Services ‘One Front Door’ at La Motte Street on Monday, 22 October. In preparation, a new layout has been completed, welcome hosts have been introduced and a system has been installed to help people access the services they need.

The first services to move in are the Taxes Helpdesk and Treasury Cashiers. From Monday 22 October, Islanders will be served from Philip Le Feuvre House. Cyril Le Marquand House will be closed to the public, except by appointment.

The building in La Motte Street was chosen to deliver ‘One Front Door’ for customers as it already has the highest level of footfall, so people who are already visiting the building can access more services in one place.

Accessibility was also a key consideration. There are disabled parking bays on La Motte Street, as well as Hilary Street, just around the corner. Disabled and non-disabled parking is available at Snow Hill, Green Street and Minden Place car parks, all within a 5 minute walk of the building. There are also multiple bus routes that stop on La Motte Street and Grenville Street,

The formation of Customer and Local Services is part of the ‘One Gov’ vision to deliver a modern, efficient, public service for Islanders. A survey of islanders in February 2018 found that:

  • 84% of islanders want government services in one place, rather than having to contact departments separately
  • 76% of islanders think the government should provide more of its services online

The aim is to make things as streamlined and easy as possible for customers, so that now, and in the future, they might not need to come in person to the department, but can instead access services online.

More than 80 services are already available online and this will continue to expand. Services are also available over the phone. This will become easier as the different phone numbers across the States are centralised into one contact centre. Support will be available for people who aren’t comfortable using online services.

  • 29 October – Customs and Passports
  • 5 November – Planning and  Building Control
