Islanders interested in fostering or adopting in Jersey are invited to find out more about the process this week.
Team members from Fostering and Adoption Jersey will be at Jersey Library on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 February to meet prospective foster carers and adopters, and to tell them more about how they could change a child’s life.
Jersey urgently needs more short- and long-term foster carers, and the team would love to chat to anybody who thinks that they could make a difference.
Anybody who can offer a child a stable home life is encouraged to consider putting themselves forward, regardless of their marital status, gender, sexuality, or age.
Susan Devlin, Group Director of Children’s Services said: “If you foster a child with Fostering and Adoption Jersey, you’ll become part of a team working to support children and young people to thrive, which works to support you 24/7. You’ll be provided with ongoing training, supervision and support, which will help you to develop skills and abilities to look after children and young people with challenging behaviours and complex needs.
“As well as a fostering allowance, which provides for the day to day cost of looking after a child, a fee is payable depending on skills and experience. Fostering may be challenging but it’s likely to be one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do. We need more carers so we can provide family placements for children and young people on island.”
Anyone interested in adopting or becoming a foster carer is encouraged to go along on Friday or Saturday between 10am and 2.30pm for an informal chat.
