Islanders can give their views on the key issues to be tackled by the new Island Plan, which will shape how Jersey’s natural and built environment will look over the next decade.
A drop-in session on Thursday, 11 July at the Town Hall from 1pm to 3.30pm is the first of a series of sessions and more formal events at which islanders will be able to find out about the Island Plan 2021-2030, and how to give their comments on the key issues which the proposed policy document will address.
Islanders are being urged to share their views on big-picture questions such as where we should build homes; how we should plan for renewable energy and a sustainable economy; or how the marine environment should be protected.
Deputy John Young, Minister for the Environment, said: “This plan is a chance to influence and shape the future and help keep Jersey a unique and special place to live.
“The Island Plan is at the heart of the planning system; it doesn’t just govern where buildings can and can’t be built, but determines how we will protect our natural environment and shape the island that our children will grow up in.
“I am very keen to hear what you, our islanders, think about how we can balance the need for new homes while safeguarding the environment, supporting the economy and planning for our ageing population. I encourage everyone to come along to one or more of the events we have planned over the summer or go online to share your views.”
Every parish will be visited by the roadshow, and each event will give the public a chance to meet the Island Plan Review Team, to ask questions about the issues that interest them, and to give their views. From Thursday, all islanders will also be able to give their views online at
www.gov.je/Islandplanreview.
Islanders have until Friday, 4 October to have their say. The feedback collected over the next 12 weeks will shape more detailed work on the Island Plan, which will be presented to the States Assembly for debate at the end of 2020.
