More than 300 qualified and newly-qualified social workers have so far enquired about roles advertised in Jersey, as part of the Let’s Be Honest international and local recruitment campaign.
The campaign was launched earlier this year by the Government of Jersey to build a more permanent and highly-skilled workforce of social workers.
A team from Children, Young People, Education and Skills, accompanied by Human Resources officers, have attended two recruitment fairs in the UK and will attend two more later this year in London. A new recruitment co-ordinator has also been appointed for the campaign.
During the first recruitment fair, in Birmingham, the team registered more than 177 enquiries. They had 131 enquiries at the second fair, in Manchester, and have already interviewed 56 candidates, who include newly-qualified social workers, senior practitioners and team managers, who want to be considered for vacancies.
Children's Minister, Senator Sam Mézec, said: “This is really positive news for Jersey. It is important that we ensure that we have the right people for these hugely significant roles. Having a stable and highly-skilled workforce of social workers is crucial as we seek to protect the welfare of our most vulnerable children and young people in Jersey.
“We are delighted by the positive response to the Let’s Be Honest recruitment campaign. Some of our agency social worker staff are also now becoming permanent staff, which shows an increase in confidence in the improvements in Jersey’s Children’s Services, and is excellent news as we work towards building a sustainable workforce.”
