The Chief Minister and the Bailiff today met the Madeiran President to celebrate two decades since the islands signed their Friendship Agreement.
Senator John Le Fondré and Sir William Bailhache flew to Madeira on Thursday to mark the milestone of the agreement which was drawn up to promote relations between the two communities.
During their two-day visit the Chief Minister and the Bailiff met the Madeiran Health and Education Secretaries along with President Dr Miguel Albuquerque.
The Friendship Agreement was signed in 1998 by the then Bailiff Sir Philip Bailhache and the then Madeiran President Dr Alberto João Jardim.
Senator Le Fondré said: “This was my first visit to Madeira. We were here for the 20th anniversary of signing the agreement. It has been a very useful visit and it is important to maintain the ties between our communities.”
