New chair sought for pan-island safeguarding board

02 April 2019

This May, Glenys Johnston OBE, will leave her post as independent chair of the Safeguarding Partnership Board (SPB) at the end of her six year term. The Safeguarding Partnership Board works to safeguard children and vulnerable adults in Jersey through the joint work of the Children’s Safeguarding Board and the Adults Safeguarding Board.

Recruitment for a new chair has started and, for first time, the Government of Jersey and the States of Guernsey are working together to appoint a new pan-island independent chair.
The new pan-island chair will operate across Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney and will seek to strengthen safeguarding policies and procedures in order to help protect children and vulnerable adults from harm.

Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondre said: “We are very grateful for the work Glenys has done during her six year term in office.  She was instrumental in establishing Jersey’s Adults Safeguarding Board and has overseen significant improvements in the way that agencies work together to help keep children and adults safe. Her legacy sets out a solid foundation for the future.

We also welcome the new development of a pan-island chair. This appointment will help us to share learning and good practice across both islands which in the longer term will help to build mutually beneficial links between our two governments.”
