The Jersey Fire and Rescue Service (JFRS) are recruiting for both full time and on-call firefighters to join the team.

They are seeking enthusiastic and skilled individuals, from all walks of life and backgrounds to fill their on-call (retained) roles immediately, and to take up full-time (on-duty) firefighter positions over the next 6-24 months and welcome applications from any individual who meets the qualifying criteria.  JFRS is keen to appeal to a wider talent pool and encourage more women to join the Service.

Chief Fire Officer, Paul Brown, said: “This is a fantastic profession and we know that in order to protect our Jersey community better, we need to more closely reflect the public we serve and have a good mix of experiences, backgrounds and perspectives. If you are interested in a career with us but think you might not be able to do the job or won’t be welcome, please think again, and act on your first instinct.

“We’ll appoint individuals who show enthusiasm for working in a team and with our communities; people with a positive, can-do, professional approach; people who recognize the value of rules and procedures but are also innovative. We particularly encourage women and those with different cultural experiences and language skills. Looking to the future of the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service, we’re also seeking individuals with leadership aspiration and potential and those who can challenge the norm.”

Applicants will need to pass a series of tests, which provide a gateway to the final interview. Throughout the process the JFRS will help prepare potential candidates with a series of open evening events for people to find our more and how they can meet the required criteria.

The first new full-time recruits are expected to commence firefighter training in the UK at the Fire Service College during September 2020.

The selection process will see applicants acquire a huge range of skills in a short space of time. As a future firefighter, successful candidates will make a difference to the Jersey community straight away.

More details can be found on the Government of Jersey website and the application process started via the firefighter advert on the Government of Jersey jobs portal. The closing date for local applications is 23 February 2020.
