Nightingale Wing blessed by faith leaders

13 May 2020

Five faith leaders perform the blessing at the nightingale wing
The Nightingale Wing of Jersey General Hospital has been blessed by Jersey’s faith leaders, following its official opening on Monday, 11 May.

The temporary hospital site at Millbrook Playing Field has been developed as part of Jersey’s response to COVID-19, creating an additional 180 patient beds for ongoing levels of medical care, including oxygen provision.

Construction work began on Thursday, 9 April by J3 construction team and the site has now been handed over to Health and Community Services. Additional health staff have been recruited and trained to support the health service in the event of extra demands.

Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Richard Renouf, said: “This project has been a collaboration between the Government and businesses, who have all pulled together to meet the tight deadline of this temporary site. The engineering and coordination shown is commendable as Jersey best prepares for the potential impact of this virus. I thank the Island’s faith leaders for blessing the Nightingale Wing.”

The Nightingale Wing was blessed by Jersey’s faith communities, on Tuesday, 12 May by the following:
  • Very Rev Mike Keirle (The Dean)
  • Revd Maureen Turner, Hospital Chaplaincy Team Leader
  • Revd Canon Dominic Golding (Catholic Dean)
  • Dr Sarfraz Jamali (Islamic representative)
  • Mr Stephen Regal (Jewish representative)
