Young people to question Ministers and Children’s Commissioner

The Children’s Minister, Education Minister and Children’s Commissioner are taking part in a live Q&A session with young people on Radio Youth FM this evening.

The show is presented by Honor (21) and Alfie (18) who are both volunteers at Youth Arts Jersey.
Senator Sam Mézec, Senator Tracey Vallois and Deborah McMillan will take questions from children and young people as well as discuss the recent findings of the children and young people survey. 　

The survey was jointly commissioned by the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills and the Children’s Commissioner’s Office.
A total of 2,105 children and young people shared their thoughts and feelings on a range of topics, from the impact coronavirus has had on their friendships to their experiences of home learning and returning to school.
The Children’s Minister, Senator Sam Mézec, said: "I’m looking forward to another opportunity to hear directly from children and young people this evening and answering their questions or concerns. The recent survey, which 2,105 children and young people responded to, has highlighted just how they are feeling during this uncertain time. As part of our commitment to putting children first it is vital that we listen and respond to their concerns and experiences."
Minister for Education, Senator Tracey Vallois, said: "We have ensured that children and young people have had a voice throughout this difficult time, through the survey, schools, YES Project, Children and Families Hub and through the Jersey Youth Service’s Radio Youth FM. We are looking forward to hearing from more young people this evening and answering their questions. The issues they raise will continue to shape the support we offer and we will be asking how best we, as political leaders, can best engage with children and young people to ensure an ongoing, open, two-way exchange of views about what we do to help."

Children’s Commissioner, Deborah McMillan, added: "During this time of ongoing disruption, it is particularly important that we continue to use all the channels available to us to communicate with the Island’s children and young people. I am really grateful to Radio Youth FM for hosting us this evening, and I look forward to a productive discussion of the issues and concerns that young people will be raising with us."
