Islanders asked to have their say on Bel Royal redesign

22 June 2021

Islanders are being encouraged to share their feedback on a proposed scheme to improve the promenade area at Bel Royal's seafront.

The plans proposed by the Infrastructure, Housing and Environment department, which were designed following feedback from a survey of cyclists, aim to create a safer and greener space for Islanders while tackling the current congestions issued faced in the area.

The proposed plans include widening the cycle track and promenade pathway, repositioning part of the cycle track to create a clearer separation from the pedestrian pathway and introducing greener spaces with additional seating.

The Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Kevin Lewis, said: "The Bel Royal area on the seafront is a high congestion point with outdoor eateries, a nursery and beach access. Additionally, the cycle track and pedestrian pathway merges together which causes significant strain on the area.

"As part of the Sustainable Transport Strong Start Programme, I am committed to making the Island a safe place for cyclists and pedestrians; these proposed plans would not only make it safer for cyclists and walkers but would also create a more attractive area for Islanders to enjoy with increased seating and green spaces. I would like to encourage Islanders to review the plans and share their feedback."

Islanders are able to review the proposed plans at gov.je and provide their feedback via a public consultation which runs until 13 July 2021.
