Children and young people are being encouraged to make their mark for Jersey’s Children Day, which takes place on Saturday, 3 July.
Jersey Children’s Day marks the anniversary of the Independent Care Inquiry. It was recommended by the Citizen’s Panel to remember Jersey’s past, celebrate childhood and look forward to the future.
A range of celebrations will be taking place and Islanders are invited to share their day using the #ChildrensDayJSY:
- celebrations of the first year of the Tree of Renewal project, where trees were gifted to schools and nurseries
- stickers with the Jersey Children’s Day emblem will have been distributed to schools and nurseries
- children and young people will share their hopes for the future
- Variety Sailing Trust are offering a sailing day for children and young people in care
- residential staff from Children’s Social Care will celebrate with a picnic and sports day on the beach
- ArtHouse Jersey will continue with their Map of Wonders art project
As well as all the in-person activities, the department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills, has published 85 fun activities for children and families to choose from both on Children’s Day and into the summer.
All the ‘Summertime Fun’ activities are available on the Learning at Home website. Children can also mark their progress with a free downloadable certificate.
Minister for Children and Education, Deputy Scott Wickenden, said; “Jersey Children’s Day is a key occasion for the Island to acknowledge Jersey’s past and reaffirm our commitment to listening to, involving, and celebrating our children and young people.
“Children and young people have been through so much over the last 18 months, which makes this Children’s Day even more poignant and relevant, as we pay testament to their resilience in the face of a sustained pandemic.”
