Updated Our Hospital design and Westmount Road images released

24 September 2021

Updated designs for Jersey's new hospital have been published following months of extensive engagement and feedback.

Also released today are images depicting how changes to Westmount Road will improve access to Overdale and create a safe route to the hospital for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

Following the release of the early-stage designs at the beginning of the summer, healthcare workers, key stakeholders and Islanders have been giving their feedback through a series of meetings, presentations, and a public exhibition.

That consultation has resulted in the Our Hospital Design and Delivery Partner refining the plans for the hospital, which has led to a reduction in height, the curved roof being replaced, and the further enhancement of public space, all without any compromise on space or services.

Deputy Chief Minister and Chair of the Our Hospital Political Oversight Group, Senator Lyndon Farnham, said: "Over the summer, clinicians, stakeholders and Islanders have helped our design and delivery partner to finesse a hospital design, which will serve Jersey for generations to come. The public can now see the new building, as well as the proposed changes to Westmount Road, and begin to appreciate how the improved and safer access will benefit all users of the new hospital.

"We have received extensive feedback and constructive comment, which we have listened to, and it means we are now on the brink of creating a hospital of which our Island community can be extremely proud."

Steve Featherstone, the Our Hospital's Lead Architect and Director of Llewelyn Davies Architects, said: "We have been able to modify the design for Jersey's new hospital, which reduces its impact on the skyline without compromising on the services it will provide.

"We thank all those who have helped us with their valuable feedback and will continue to refine the designs ahead of the planning application submission in November."
