Disability Inclusion event

02 November 2022

For the second consecutive year, as part of the Government’s Disability Inclusion Strategy, an ‘Embrace our difference’ event is being held on Friday 4 November 2022 at the Jersey Town Library from 17:30-20:30.

The purpose of this event is to continue to drive visibility and conversation on disability inclusion and work closely with stakeholders across the Island to deliver positive change. Thirty-eight organisations that provide services and support for disabled Islanders will have stalls at the event, showcasing how they are being innovative and embracing disability inclusion. Guests are by invitation only and will be attending to see, first-hand, how these organisations are leading innovation within their own areas. Liz Johnson, Gold medal winning Paralympian swimmer will also be attending and is the keynote speaker at the event.

The event will be the first part of the Government’s focus on disability inclusion, this will be followed with a marketing campaign to raise awareness, change perceptions, and encourage Islanders to take action.

Liz Johnson will be available for interviews on Thursday 3 November between 18:00-19:00 where, as part of her visit to Jersey, she will be meeting with media. Liz will also be leading an assembly at Samarès school, between 08:30-09:30 on Friday 4 November, where media are welcome to attend.

Minister for Social Security, Deputy Elaine Millar said. “I am delighted that we are delivering our second event to support disability inclusion. This is a very important topic and one that we must continue to drive and raise visibility on so we can all do our part to promote inclusivity.

“Through this event, and other initiatives, we will continue to collaborate with our community partners and work together to lead positive change, as well as support Islanders to make changes and be more inclusive, whether that’s at home, in work or out in the community.

“We are grateful that Liz Johnson has come to Jersey to support us and give her time to make sure that this event as well as all the activities around it are a great success.”
