Jersey Design Awards Launched

03 May 2022

The Minister for the Environment's Jersey Architecture Commission has launched the Jersey Design Awards for 2022.

The awards were formally launched last week (Thursday 28 April) by the Minister at the Association of Jersey Architects' initial professional talk series. The Awards will celebrate high quality design by Jersey architects, designers, and developers. Usually held biennially with the last competition in 2019, they were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The awards are open to any Islander who has delivered a project that they believe has contributed positively to the built environment of Jersey. Submissions can be made until noon on Friday 1 July.

The awards are split into eleven categories:

  • Best large-scale new build development
  • Best small-scale new build development
  • Best large-scale refurbishment or extension
  • Best small-scale building or extension
  • The unbuilt scheme
  • Best historic building project
  • Best landscape architecture project
  • Best example of sustainable and/or innovative design
  • Best artwork in the public domain
  • Best interior
  • Jersey students architectural project award

Minister for the Environment, Deputy John Young, said: "I am pleased that we are able to hold these awards once again and give recognition to those Islanders that have helped develop Jersey's architecture, townscape and landscape for the better.

"I encourage all Jersey architects, designers, and developers to enter the 2022 Design Awards to showcase their excellent work in our built and wider environment.

"I particularly welcome submissions for the sustainable and innovation award to help us demonstrate the steps we are all taking to meet the Climate Emergency."

Submissions will be assessed by a judging panel in July made up of the Jersey Architecture Commissioners and a guest judge. The Awards will be presented in September at the Jersey Architecture Commission Design Awards Evening.

All entries will be featured in an exhibition at the Jersey Museum in January 2023.
