The Minister for Housing and Communities, Deputy Russell Labey, is re-appointing Jersey’s
Rent Control Tribunal, as announced in his Fair Rents Plan.
The Government of Jersey is advertising for volunteers to serve on the Tribunal, looking for
Islanders who are experienced in housing-related matters and wanting to make an important
contribution to their community. There are four roles available - a chairperson and three
members.
The Tribunal has remained unappointed for several years. Its traditional role is to hear and
determine referrals for reconsideration of rent payable, in accordance with Jersey law.
Although Tribunal Members will need to consider rent referrals that fall under the scope of
the existing law, the short-term priority will be to develop proposals to update the Tribunal’s
remit and function.
Deputy Russell Labey said: “I am pleased to announce the recruitment process for the
appointment of a new Rent Tribunal. I really want to encourage Islanders to put themselves
forward for this excellent opportunity to make a real contribution to positive change within
Jersey’s rental market.”
