Jersey Youth Parliament (JYP) has agreed the three campaigns they will be working on
during their 18-month term: Housing, The Right to Play, and Diversity and Inclusion.
• The Right to Play focuses on young people’s right to play, safe paces to play,
and land being earmarked for play
• Diversity and Inclusion explores education on different ethnicities, LGBTQ, and
the Islands’ diversity
• Housing identifies the housing crisis and ways to encourage young people to
stay in Jersey
The JYP is open to Islanders aged between 12 and 18, and was set up in response to
the Independent Care Inquiry. It allows young people to spend 18 months
campaigning on issues that affect them.
The new JYP group was formed in June and since their appointment, they have
already received training from Mind Jersey and the States Greffe Education Officer to
support them in their new role.
JYP met and presented seven different campaign themes. Following questions from
other JYP members, they each voted for three campaigns that they wished to work on
using the States Chamber voting system. The Deputy Bailiff, Robert MacRae chaired
the meeting and States Members were invited to observe the meeting.
JYP members will progress with their three chosen campaigns by contacting States
Members, Government departments, and other local organisations. During each
campaign, JYP will present findings to the States Assembly, engage with Scrutiny, and
create a final report to share with Ministers.

Lisa Mansell, Senior Youth Worker who has helped set up Jersey Youth Parliament,
said: “The Jersey Youth Parliament will be working on three very important campaigns
over their 18-month term – all of which will be presented to States Members and
compiled into a final report with recommendations and ideas.
“The new Jersey Youth Parliament group was formed at the end of the summer term,
and they had a great residential at the Queens Jubilee Activity Centre where they got
to know each other and started to think about what the future holds.
“As this new group start, it is important to not forget the incredible work of the past
group and just last week their final reports were uploaded onto our website for
Islanders to read.
“I wish our new JYP all the best for the next 18 months and look forward to
supporting them.”
