Child Measurement Report for 2022-23 published

05 October 2023

Public Health has published Jersey's Child Measurement Report for 2022-23.

The report measures healthy weight, overweight, and obesity prevalence among school-age pupils in reception class and Year 6.

Figures from the most recent academic year (2022/2023) show:

  • One in four (24%) children are already overweight or obese when measured during the first year of primary school in Jersey, and by the time they are aged 10 or 11, this rises to around three in ten (32%).
  • A disparity between rural, semi-urban and urban parishes persists, with children living in urban parishes being more likely to be overweight or obese than those living in rural parishes.
  • Children in non-fee-paying schools were also more likely to be overweight or obese than those attending fee-paying schools.

The full report can be found here.
