All school and home-educated children and young people in Jersey will receive an invitation this
week to this year’s Children’s Day, which will take place at Howard Davis Park on Sunday, 2 July.
Invitations will be sent to all schools for students and every child will also receive a badge
decorated with the official Children’s Day butterfly emblem.
The free family fun event is open to all Islanders. It will include:
- Live music from a range of youth performers, organised by Youth Arts
- A range of free entertainment and activities
- Discounted catering
- Information, advice and guidance from a range of organisations and charities.
Ahead of the event, school children are taking part in a community art project, which will be
displayed in Howard Davis Park on Children’s Day. Students have been invited to design dream
catchers as part of a collaboration with ArtHouse Jersey.
Last year, more than 6,000 children, young people and families attended the first public Children’s
Day events at Howard Davis Park and Millbrook Park.
The Children’s Day emblem was the result of an Island-wide competition in 2020 with the winning
entry – featuring children, butterfles and birds – designed by Haute Vallée student Jodie Perkins.
Speaking at the time, Jodie said: "My design represents how children should feel safe where they
are, they should be able to cope with change and that they should be recognised for their full
potential."
Minister for Children and Education, Deputy Inna Gardiner said: “Children’s Day, last year, was a
great success, with thousands attending throughout the day. Once again, we’ve seen an amazing
response from the community, charities, caterers and entertainers and businesses. We are very
grateful to all of our supporters and volunteers who are involved in Children’s Day.
“Children and young people are at the heart of Jersey Children’s Day and we thank our schools for
helping us to distribute invitations to every school child and all children who are home-educated
will also receive an invitation. We look forward to once again seeing children and families and the
community come together to celebrate this year’s event.”
Cheyenne O’Connor, of the independent survivor’s group at the Community Partnership Trust, said:
“This year’s event looks set to be another amazing day for families to come and join in with the
fantastic range of activities planned. At the same time, Jersey Children’s Day is also a chance for us
to remember the lessons of the past and work towards creating a better future for our children.”
