The new Health and Community Services Board, established by the Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Karen Wilson, with agreement of the States Assembly in June 2023, is sitting for the first time today.
So far, the Board comprises of an independent Chair, Professor Hugo Mascie-Taylor, four non-executive directors, plus executive officers from the Department (with one less executive officer to ensure a balance in favour of independent members). Recruitment for a fifth non-executive director is ongoing.
The Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Karen Wilson, commented: "This is a major step forward regarding transparency for Health and Community Services, which is welcomed by Professor Hugo Mascie-Taylor (Interim Chair) and Chris Bown (Interim Chief Officer). The new advisory Board for the Health and Community Service Department will play a critical role in helping drive up the standards of care provided to Islanders. As I have said previously, Islanders deserve high-quality, compassionate care, and staff within the Department have the right to feel valued, respected, and listened to. I am confident that the Board, will help drive service improvements and create a new, positive culture for the benefit of all."
