The Minister for Home Affairs, Deputy Helen Miles, is pleased to announce the
appointment of the Jersey Police Authority’s (JPA) new Chair and two additional board
members, who will be responsible for the effective governance and oversight of the
States of Jersey Police (SoJP).
Chairperson appointment
Simon Harman, a highly accomplished professional with a background in military
service, law enforcement, financial services and the legal sector, has been selected as
the new Chair of the JPA. With an extensive career spanning over three decades, Mr
Harman has held various leadership positions within the Hampshire Constabulary, the
Financial Services sector and served as a Centenier for nine years in St Helier. His
versatile expertise makes him an ideal candidate to lead the Authority.

the appointment of Simon Harman as the new Chair of the Jersey Police
Authority. Under his leadership, I am confident that the Jersey Police Authority will
continue to ensure the safety and security of our community while fostering
transparency, fairness, and accountability in policing matters."
Simon Harman, Chair of the Jersey Police Authority, added: "I am delighted to have
been appointed as the new Chair for the Jersey Police Authority. I firmly believe we
have a great opportunity to develop the role of the JPA and enhance the value which it
adds to policing for our Island".
Board member appointments
In addition to the appointment of Mr Harman, the JPA welcomes two additional
individuals to its board:
- Annette Cullen: brings a wealth of experience in human resources at both
strategic and operational levels. Her keen insight and comprehensive
understanding will undoubtedly contribute to the Authority's role of ensuring
that the SoJP maintain an efficient and effective force.
- Nigel Smith: has had a long and commendable career following over 30 years of
service in the military. He has held key leadership roles demonstrating his ability
to undertake complex strategic and operational tasks. His additional acumen as
a board member for various businesses and charities in Jersey will be invaluable
in guiding the Authority forward.
The JPA is confident that the collective expertise and diverse backgrounds of the newly
appointed Chair and board members will further enhance the Authority's ability to
provide effective oversight and governance of the SoJP.
The Minister and the JPA would also like to express its gratitude to the outgoing Chair,
Dr Jason Lane, and board members for their invaluable contributions and dedication
during their tenure. Their unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards
of professionalism and accountability has been instrumental in shaping the Authority's
vision and ensuring the delivery of quality policing services.
