Mont Nicolle School review published

22 February 2023

Mont Nicolle School has been reviewed as part of the Jersey Schools Review Framework. The full report is available on the schools review website

Reviews, which take place every three years, aim to evaluate the school environment, the behaviour and personal development of pupils, the effectiveness of the school’s leadership and the standards of teaching, learning and achievement.

The review team was made up of four reviewers, who visited the school over two days in January. During that time, they observed 19 lessons. They also spoke to groups of pupils and teachers, and reviewed a sample of workbooks for English, mathematics, and some humanities subjects.

Headteacher of Mont Nicolle School, Lisa Paul, said: “I would like to thank the review team for their professionalism during the review. It was a rigorous process that was highly supportive and developmental for our school. I would also like to thank Mont Nicolle staff and children for supporting the review.

“I welcome the recommendations provided, and as a team we will continue to work collaboratively and effectively to improve our school, ensuring that all our pupils achieve their potential in a safe and happy environment.”

The Jersey Schools Review Framework was piloted across Government schools from 2016 to 2019. Each assessment is undertaken by an independent external lead reviewer, experienced in conducting reviews in other jurisdictions, as well as a Senior Adviser from the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills (CYPES) and senior school leaders currently working in Jersey schools.

The review team speak with pupils, consult parents, meet with and survey staff, look at pupils’ work, observe lessons and review school data.

Following each review, the school, parents and CYPES receive a short report of the findings which will be available on the Jersey Schools Review Framework webpage, where parents and carers can watch videos and read factsheets in English, Polish and Portuguese to find out more about the process.

The full report is available on the schools review website.
