Health and Community Services announces transition to new electronic patient records system

25 May 2023

Health and Community Services (HCS) is excited to announce its transition to a new electronic patient records system, IMS MAXIMS, which will go live across all departments from Sunday 28 May.

The transition marks a significant milestone in the Government’s digital health transformation programme and supports its commitment to delivering efficient and comprehensive healthcare services to Islanders. It is viewed as a vital step towards enhancing the quality and accessibility of medical information, while allowing for better co-ordination among healthcare providers.

The process of transferring records is due to take place this weekend, from the evening of 26 May to the morning of 28 May, potentially leading to delays at the General Hospital. Islanders are, therefore, asked to only visit the Emergency Department if they are experiencing a genuine medical emergency. This precautionary measure will allow Hospital staff to prioritise critical cases and provide efficient care to those in need during this transitional phase.

Chris Bown, Chief Officer for Health and Community Services said: “By digitalising patient records, HCS aims to streamline and optimise medical processes and improve accuracy.

“While this transition will ultimately result in long-term benefits for our patients and colleagues, we want to advise patients about the possibility of temporary delays and we kindly request that individuals only visit the emergency department if they are experiencing a medical emergency that requires immediate attention.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work diligently to ensure a seamless transition to electronic patient records.

“HCS is committed to delivering the highest standard of healthcare and patient safety. We have taken comprehensive measures to minimise any potential inconveniences that may arise during this transition. Our healthcare professionals will be supported by a team of IT experts to ensure a smooth transition, with minimal disruption to patient care.

“I want to thank colleagues and patients for your ongoing support and cooperation throughout this transition period. Together, we are shaping a more advanced and patient-centric healthcare system."
