In June 2024:

  • the total number of jobs in the economy was 65,290
  • the total number of jobs in the economy was 510 higher than in June 2023, representing an annual increase of 0.8%

Jobs by sector

In June 2024:

  • three sectors saw notable annual increases in jobs: 
    • 130 jobs in private education, health and other services (up 1%) 
    • 120 jobs in financial and legal activities (up 1%)
    • 100 jobs in miscellaneous business activities (up 2%)
  • three sectors saw notable annual decreases in jobs:
    • 160 construction and quarrying (down 2%)​
    • 100 jobs in hotels, restaurants and bars (down 2%)
    • 80 jobs in wholesale and retail (down 1%)
  • the number of jobs in the public sector increased by 440 on an annual basis (up 5%)

Employment by place of birth and gender

In relative terms, employment levels in Jersey are high. 

In 2021, 84% of people of working age in Jersey were economically active (in work or looking for work).

The lowest rate was for Jersey-born residents (79%) and the highest rate for people born in Poland (93%). 

The economic activity rate for Jersey-born residents of working age was lower than the rates of those born in other jurisdictions. 

This is as a result of the number of Jersey-born people in full-time education.
