Immunisation

The following groups of Jersey residents are offered vaccines against a variety of diseases.

  • pre-school children
  • teenagers
  • pregnant women
  • older people

The overall aim of the routine immunisation schedules for these groups is to provide protection against a number of vaccine-preventable infections.

For some diseases, when vaccine coverage is high enough to induce high levels of population immunity, infections may even be eliminated, for example diphtheria.

For highly contagious infections such as measles, the World Health Organisation recommends at least 95% of children are immunised against measles.
