About PayByPhone
PayByPhone parking is available in all paying public car parks, for on-street parking and for half price parking if you have an Eco-friendly parking permit.
You can still use paycards if you prefer.
Season tickets will continue as normal.
If you use the PayByPhone service you can:
- pay for parking without cash or paycards
- pay from your vehicle when you park
- extend your parking time from your phone
- set up text reminders and receipts
Using PayByPhone costs the same as paycards, but there is a 20 pence per transaction charge for optional text reminders and text receipts.

How to register for PayByPhone
You can register for PayByPhone whenever you like, or the first time you use it to pay for your parking. When registering you will need to provide details about your vehicle and your debit or credit card for payment.
Remember when registering your vehicle enter the full registration number as it appears on your licence plate including any letters.

PayByPhone charges
Parking costs the same as paycards with additional charges if you opt to use text reminders and receipts. The option for text reminders and receipts can be switched off in your PayByPhone account settings.

Turn off text reminder and receipt notifications in the app
If you do not want to receive text reminders and text receipts then you'll need to turn off the notifications in the apps settings:
- select the menu option on the apps homepage (cog in the top right-hand corner for iPhone or three horizontal lines in the top left-hand corner for Android)
- for iPhone select "accounts settings" followed by "notification settings", for Android select "notifications"
- unselect the notifications you wish to turn off
- select 'update'
Pay for parking using an iPhone or Android phone
Once you have registered:
- open the PayByPhone app
- select PARK from the app home page
- confirm your vehicle registration and enter the location number - for example Green Street is 59812 (your device will save the location number for next time)
- enter the number of hours you want to park for
- confirm your payment by entering the three digit security code (CVV) from the back of the registered bank card details
How to pay for parking using a touch tone phone
If you do not have a smart phone you can call the automatic payment number:
- call +44 (0) 1534 707000
- respond to the prompts
- wait to hear that parking payment has started
Extend your parking using an iPhone or Android phone
To extend your parking:
- open the app on your phone
- your current parking session is shown on the welcome screen
- touch the "Extend" option shown
- add the number of hours you wish to purchase
- confirm the additional time by entering the CVV number from the reverse of the bank card you registered
- up to the maximum parking time allowed
In short stay and shopper carparks you must leave and then return before you can start a new parking session.

- wait to hear your parking has been confirmed
