Compensation awards regime
The Minister for Social Security has directed the Employment Forum to conduct a consultation exercise to review the current levels of compensation awards available to the Employment and Discrimination Tribunal.
Compensation awards can be made in cases of a breach of an employee’s:
- statutory rights
- unfair dismissal
- financial loss
- hurt and distress in employment-related discrimination claims

About the Employment Forum
The Employment Forum role will be to act as a non-political consultative body.
The forum will need to consult on the rate of minimum wage and other employment related issues as directed by the Social Security Minister. After views have been received in consultation the forum will need to report these to the minister along with recommendations on each issue.
The forum's role and responsibilities are formalised in the
Employment (Jersey) Law 2003.

The Employment Forum members
Appointments are usually made for a three year term, which can be extended or renewed. The minister appoints members based on their interest in employment relations and their diversity of backgrounds.
The forum is made up of up to 9 members, including representatives of employers, employees and independent members.
