External Description 5 bay, 3 storey building, the ground floor forming a plinth, piano nobile, first and later set back attic floor. Front (east) elevation: New attic floor set back behind parapet of bottle balusters. Heraldry and coat of arms at centre flacked by scrolls. Stucco, decorative and moulded, banded at first floor and rusticated at ground floor level. Pilasters frame the building on either side. Moulded cornice between second floor and parapet, and first and second floors. Rectangular frames picked out on second floor. Slender pilasters with Acanthus leaf capitals framing first floor windows. First floor windows are 12 pane (6/6) sashes without horns. On the first floor 2 of the 3 windows are squared bays, all with timber mullions and looking out onto a terrace above the ground floor. Ground floor windows are new. Rear (west) elevation: 4 bays, 3 storeys. Slate roof with 2 box dormers, each with casement windows. Rendered, ashlar effect. First and second floor windows are 2 pane (1/1) sashes with margins. Ground floor windows are casements in a tripartite arrangement of glazing with frosted glass. Moulded half round door hood on brackets and plain pilasters frame the door. Double doors, 3 panel each. Single pane overlight. Side (south) elevation: Gable end. Rendered, ashlar effect. Scattered fenestration. Windows are a mixture of 2 pane (1/1) sashes with margins, 12 pane (6/6) sashes and modern casements. Internal Description Parts of the old corn market are incorporated into the current building, including massive granite arches at ground floor - supporting the upper floors. A pair of impressive granite fireplaces in traditional style, although not original to the building.
