Statement of significance
Well proportioned Georgian-style buildings retaining historic character and features, in a historically significant part of St Helier.
Context
Part of a group of three buildings making up a block that forms a side of Royal Square.
External Description
Corner site onto Library Place and Church Street, 3 bay, 4 storey, the top being a new addition. Front (north) elevation: Stucco, originally with parapet demarcated with a thin cornice. First and second floor windows are 12 pane (6/6) sashes, the corner ones presumably replacing earlier curved glass windows. Ground floor shop front with plain pilasters with rolled tops and plain fascia. Panelled reveal to doorway, 2 panel timber door with roll moulding down the centre, single pane overlight. Shop windows are modern. Corner door with columns is new. Side (west) elevation: Stucco, originally with parapet demarcated with a thin cornice. First and second floor windows are 12 pane (6/6) sashes with shutter hooks visible. Ground floor shop front with plain pilasters with rolled tops and plain fascia. Further 8 pane (4/4) sash window to side. Panelled reveal to side doorway. Adjoining to east is thin wedge shaped building forming the corner of a block next to the Union Club, 3 bay, 4 storeys. Front (north) elevation: Stucco with full height pilasters dividing the bays above ground floor level. Third floor windows are 9 pane (3/6) sashes, first and second floor windows are 12 pane (6/6) sashes, without horns. Ground floor is shop front, divided into 3 bays with fluted pilasters with Ionic capitals and plain fascia above.
