Statement of significance
This prominent late Victorian corner building is well proportioned and detailed and adds value to the streetscape character. Its shop front is of a high quality of design and craftsmanship.

External Description
Corner building. 3 storey with attic, 2 bays to west (King Street), corner bay, 3 bays to south (Halkett Place). Elevational treatment is the same on both sides. Front, North elevation: Slate, mansard roof with 2 dormers with 4 pane (2/2) windows with horns. Rendered chimney to west. Walls rendered. Parapet with moulded cornice at gutter level. Rusticated quoins. Eared architraves to 2nd floor windows with scroll and swag decoration at top. 1st floor flat, arched window architraves have faceted keystones and foliate capitals. Relief render connects 1st and 2nd floor architraves. String course between floors and at level of 1st floor capitals. Windows are 2 pane double casements with 1 pane overlights. Shop front is framed by pilasters with cornice and fascia running full width and curving around corner. The window frames are metal with fluted mullions. Side, east elevation: Rendered chimney with dentilled cornice between 2 north bays. No attic to south bay. The elevational treatment is as north elevation. Side, north elevation: Pitched slate roof abutting mansard gable to north. Rendered chimney to west. Box dormer with 2 pane (1/1) sash, no horns. Wall rendered with ashlar and keystone effect. Windows to 2nd floor 6 pane (3/3) sashes, no horns, to 1st floor 12 pane (6/6) sashes, no horns. Shop front continued as N and E elevations. Entrance door to W 4 panel with round headed overlight.
