One of a collection of island-wide historic roadside structures designed for the provision of public water supply, which together make a considerable contribution to the island's distinctive character and represent a tangible legacy of its history and culture. Context n/a External Description The pump was fed from a well sunk in 1836 (the work having been authorised by a parish assembly in 1835). It still sits above the well and has a cast-iron and sheet metal housing in the form of a tall pedestal, square on plan and slightly tapered, with a moulded base and cornice with a pyramidal cap. On its north side is a waterspout, under which sits the original cast iron trough. On its west side is a large curved pump handle.
