The Health and Safety Inspectorate has recently become aware of several Hobart food mixers in commercial kitchens that do not have interlocked guards.
An interlocked guard prevents access to the moving parts and stops the mixer when the guard is moved or opened. This is required to comply with the legal requirements under the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989 to help reduce the risk of entanglement or crush injuries. Such guards can potentially be retrofitted to older models.
Employers should check their food mixers to ensure they have interlocked guards in order to help meet the legal requirements.
