This Approved Code of Practice, ‘Safety in the Use of Machinery’ ACoP 10, provides practical guidance and advice on the safe use of machinery in the workplace, with the exception of woodworking machinery which is covered by ‘The Safe Use of Woodworking Machinery’ ACoP 9.
Areas covered by the ACoP
Machinery can be dangerous if measures are not taken to ensure its safety. This ACoP, which does not introduce new legal requirements, sets out:
- the legal duties placed on all those involved with the development and use of machinery from its initial design and manufacture, commissioning and installation, use and maintenance through to its eventual disposal
- guidance on the risk assessment process which should be followed in order to identify hazards associated with the use of machinery
- identification of common machinery hazards, including mechanical hazards and non-mechanical hazards
- information on specific control measures that can be adopted to address the hazards arising from the use of machinery
