The main measure of Jersey’s population is provided by the census, which was last held in March 2021. Annual population estimates are produced between each census.
The population and migration is estimated using linked administrative data (data already held by government for the purposes of running services such as education, health, and social security benefits).
The method uses patterns of activity to indicate whether pseudonymised individuals were resident at various points in time.
2023 population estimate
Jersey's resident population at the end of 2023 was estimated to be 103,650 people.
The report shows that in 2023:
- the size of the resident population increased by 350 people from the 2022 estimate of 103,300
- net migration was +470
- there were approximately 110 more deaths than births of Jersey residents
Net inward migration of +470 in 2023 was comprised of approximately:
- +860 net inward migration of people with Registered status
- +350 net inward migration of people with Licensed status
