Dietetic Service

We give advice about conditions needing dietary, and behavioural change at our outpatient clinics. We may see you on a 1-to-1 basis or in a group. We may also treat you in your own home or nursing home if there is an urgent need.​​​

Enid Quenault Health and wellbeing Centre ​

We hold the following clinics at the Enid Quenault Health and wellbeing Centre. ​

• nutrition support clinic, Monday and Tuesday morning
• children's clinic, Wednesday afternoon held in the: Child Development and Therapy Centre
  
• children's feeding clinic, Monday afternoon (monthly) held in the: Child Development and Therapy Centre
  
• weight check drop in clinic for adults, Thursday afternoon (monthly)
• nutrition clinics for oncology patients, Thursday and Friday mornings
• Diabetes clinic and weight loss surgery clinics are held in the: Jersey Diabetes Centre ​
  

General hospital 

We hold the kidney disease. dietitian clinic, at in the Renal Unit at the General Hospital on Friday mornings 

What to expect at your appointment

​We will ask you questions about your current diet and eating habits, and activity level. We may weigh you and take other measurements such as your height and body fat level.

We will suggest ways you can change your diet and set goals with you. We may give you a diet sheet to follow. We sometimes advise taking a dietary supplement or sip feeds to help you meet your nutritional needs. 

First appointments take around  30 to 40 minutes. Follow-up appointments take between 15 and 20 minutes. 

Changing your appointment

If you need to reschedule your appointment, call the number on your appointment letter. 
If you fail to attend ​your appointment, we may discharge you from our service. We will  also notify the health professional who referred you. ​

Inpatient services

We treat patients in the General Hospital when there's a need for a therapeutic diet or tube feeding. We assess a patients nutritional status using:

• body measurements
• biochemistry
• what patients are eating and drinking

Some patients have a poor appetite and need support with increasing their nutrient intake to aid with recovery.

We liaise with other professionals such as nurses, speech and language therapists and catering team to ensure nutrition goals are met.​

Subsidised Products Scheme

Your dietitian, GP or community nurse can issue vouchers to help with the cost of food items for special medical purposes, including: 

• enteral tube feeds
  
• feeding equipment
  
• oral nutritional supplements
  

Vouchers hold your name and address, and details of the products you need. They let you, or somebody on your behalf, buy the products you need at a subsidised rate. There is no charge, if products are for a child of 6 years or under or for metabolic feeds.

You can opt to collect your products from 1 of 4 pharmacies. Let you healthcare professional which pharmacy you've chosen. Allow 48 hours before collecting your products. 

If it's essential, your healthcare professional can ask for your product to be delivered to your home. ​​

You can also opt for a non-essential delivery to your home for an extra charge of £10. You can pay the driver by cheque or set up an account with the pharmacy. The driver can't accept cash. ​
