In 2022, the Economic Framework for the Rural Environment and the
Economic Framework for the Marine Environment were approved. These frameworks established a new value system for our local rural and marine industries, focusing on the principle of 'public money for public goods'.
These frameworks outline the work our team carries out to support the sectors with key deliverables based on economic, social and environmental drivers. They emphasise the need for measures that:
- increase productivity
- support sustainale business practices
- maintain high environmental standards
- meeting domestic and global market demands
- ensure food production remians central to marine economic activity

Additional funding
Additional funding has been provided for the Rural and Marine Economy to support its economic, environmental, and social sustainability.
Support needs for Rural and Marine Businesses
Jersey's rural and marine businesses need support to survive and contribute to the economy in the following ways:
- maintaining employment and providing employment opportunities in the future
- providing a baseline level of food security
- continuing stewardship of Jersey's countryside and natural resources
- providing local produce for consumption locally and for export
- contributing to the wider health of the economy
Government support
Government support aims to match the financial assistance available in nearby areas. If this support isn’t provided, the sectors may struggle to compete in the market and could ultimately fail.
