The Marine Support Scheme (MSS) provides direct financial support to the marine sector while adhering to international trade rules. A grant delivery method will reward local businesses using a points based ‘marine credit’ system, to calculate support payments.
Credits will be awarded to each business for a range of activities and converted to a grant payment at a standard rate.
The MSS has 3 tiers:
- Tier 1: rewards businesses with accreditation from independently audited quality schemes and gives credits based on the size of licenced vessels that meet safety standards
- Tier 2: offers credits based on fishing efforts
- Tier 3: awards credits for skills enhancement and training for workers employed by the business during the year
To qualify for support payments in 2024, you must meet the following conditions:
- have a valid Jersey issued fishing licence
- be operating as a going concern with a valid business licence (Regulation of Undertakings) at the time of application
- provide business accounts or a tax return showing fishing income for 2022 and 2023
- your business ‘Gross Margin’ must exceed £5,000 per year
Once you submit your registration form, you will receive a Marine Support Scheme application pack with details of your days at sea, vessel size and full terms and conditions of the scheme.
