The Marine Support Scheme (MSS) provides direct financial support to the marine sector while adhering to international trade rules. A grant delivery method will reward local businesses using a points based ‘marine credit’ system, to calculate support payments.
Credits will be awarded to each business for a range of activities and converted to a grant payment at a standard rate.
MSS structure
The MSS has 3 tiers:
- Tier 1: rewards businesses with accreditation from independently audited quality schemes and gives credits based on the size of licenced vessels that meet safety standards
- Tier 2: offers credits based on fishing efforts
- Tier 3: awards credits for skills enhancement and training for workers employed by the business during the year
