The ban on single-use vapes
By mid-2025, it’ll be illegal to import or supply single-use vapes in Jersey. This means vapes that cannot be refilled or recharged.
The restrictions will apply to traders and individuals. You won’t be able to:
- sell, lend, exchange and gift single-use vapes
- order single-use vapes from an off-Island trader and import it by post
Illegal imports of single-use vapes will be seized and could be fined up to £1,000.
You’ll still be able to use single-use refill pods once the ban is in place.
The ban follows amendments made to the law approved by the States Assembly in December 2024. It can take several months for the law to be registered with the Royal Court. The exact date the ban will start will be announced 1 month in advance.

Why are single-use vapes being banned
Single-use vapes are typically used and thrown away within a few days.
They are being banned because:
- they are a misuse of resources
- they generate a lot of waste and negatively impact the environment
- they are a fire hazard if thrown away as rubbish
- their waste causes problems and costs a lot
Single-use vapes bought before the ban
If you bought one or more single-use vapes before the ban you can still use them. However you must not supply them to anyone once the ban is in force.
If you’re a trader and imported single-use vapes before the ban, you can sell them for up to 6 months after the law will come into place. You may be asked to prove that the items were delivered before the ban.
Recycling vapes
You can recycle single-use or reusable vapes at:
- the mini battery recycling banks
- the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre at La Collette
Make sure you empty your vape before recycling it.
