The ban on single-use vapes
From 1 August 2025, it’ll be against the law to import and supply single-use vapes.
Up until 1 February 2026 retailers are allowed to sell existing stock. After this date they will no longer be able to sell any single-use vapes.
A vape is considered single-use if it meets one or more of the following:
- it cannot be reused
- it cannot be refilled
- its battery cannot be recharged
- its coil cannot be replaced
Vapes that are permitted must be designed to allow for all of the above functions.
The restrictions will apply to traders and individuals. You won’t be able to:
- sell, lend, exchange or gift single-use vapes
- order single-use vapes from an off-Island trader and import it by post
- bring single-use vapes into the island in your personal baggage
Illegal imports of single-use vapes will be seized and could be fined up to £1,000.
You’ll still be able to use single-use refill pods once the ban is in place.
The ban follows amendments made to the Single-Use Plastics law approved by the States Assembly in December 2024.

Why are single-use vapes being banned
Single-use vapes are typically used and thrown away within a few days.
They are being banned because they damage the environment:
- they are a misuse of resources
- they generate a lot of waste and negatively impact the environment
- they are a fire hazard if thrown away as rubbish
- they are difficult and expensive to recycle
The ban will also help to reduce the uptake of vaping by children and young people, as single use vapes are their product of choice.
Single-use vapes bought before the ban
As an individual, if you bought single-use vapes before the ban you can still use them. However, you must not supply them to anyone once the ban is in force.
If you’re a trader and imported single-use vapes before the ban, you can sell this existing stock for up to 6 months after the law comes into place, until 1 February 2026.
You may be asked to prove that the items were delivered before 1 August 2025.
Recycling vapes
You can recycle single-use or reusable vapes at:
- the mini battery recycling banks
- the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre at La Collette
Make sure you empty your vape before recycling it.
